The Divorcing and Recently Divorced

Robin Wright Penn and Sean Penn have announced they are divorcing. No, really, this time they are…well, maybe.

The couple has filed for divorce three times in the past. They first announced their plans to divorce in December 2007. But, the couple looked happy as they attended the Academy Awards together in February 2009. Sean won his second Oscar, but was criticized for not thanking his wife during his acceptance speech. In April 2008, Sean announced that he had filed for divorce and would seek joint custody of the couple’s two children, 16 year old Hopper and 18 year old Dylan. Sean had the request dismissed in May 2009, but on August 12th, Robin filed for divorce, saying she had no plans of reconciling this time.

Another couple divorcing is Tracy Morgan and his wife Sabina. Actually, many may not be surprised by this turn of events. By some estimates, the couple, who has been married for 23 years, has been living separate lives for the past 8 years.

It must be a rough year for funnymen because David Alan Grier is also going through a divorce. His wife, Christine Kim, filed for divorce last month. The couple has only been married for two years and has a one year old daughter, Luisa.

Comedian John Cleese saw his divorce finalized in December 2008, but he still isn’t happy with the results. Although he and ex-wife Alyce Faye Eichelberger had no children during their 16 year marriage, he has been ordered to pay her almost $13 million including cash, their NYC apartment, a $3 million dollar home in west London, and half their beach house in Santa Barbara. As for the cash part, she will get almost one million dollars a year for seven years. It seems as if Cleese’s ex is taking more than she is leaving for him. He said, “In my 70th year, I will still be spending two months a year doing work that is of no interest to me and which is probably slightly spiritually depleting in order to feed the beast.”
