Last week at the cats only boarding facility, I had a quick refresher on computer stuff — how to add a new client to the system, how to input various charges, how to check someone out, how to put a guest on the schedule. For practice, we pretended that I was a new client and added me to the system.
Of course, you may notice that I don’t have any cats to add. So we used Moose. To my surprise, the computer program the boarding facility uses already has codes for dogs. It must be a program that any animal care place can use, not just a cats-only vet and boarding facility. So we put Moose into the computer and I practiced setting him up for boarding and various grooming services — all the while, having a good giggle about my fatboy trying to fit into one of the cat-sized condos.
But there is a dog at the cats only boarding facility! One of the two veterinarians often brings her black Labrador, Murphy, to work.
Let me tell you just how impressed I am with this dog. He is SO well trained and listens SO well to his owner.
Both doctor and dog come in through the back door in the morning. The back door of the building is located on the boarding side, not on the vet side. So that means they walk past the two isolation wards and the main boarding room on their way in. Murphy may glance over his shoulder at the kitties, but he doesn’t bark, he doesn’t sniff, he just keeps on walking. While his owner is hard at work treating sick kitties, Murphy is hard at work napping. He has a cozy bed in the doctor’s office and as far as I can tell, he doesn’t move a muscle. He stays there all day, regardless of who walks by or what noises he hears.
Sometimes, he comes dressed for work in a snazzy blue fleece with a polo collar. He is such an awesome dog! I can’t think of a better dog to be working at a cats only boarding facility.
