“The Donald” Keeps His Hair

When I wrote about Donald Trump’s wrestling bet a few weeks back I made a bet with myself that the entire “Battle of the Billionaires” showdown was a big April Fools Day joke. Well, it turns out I may have been partially right.

For those of you who don’t keep tabs on The Donald’s bets (or his hair… or loss of it), Trump was involved in what World Wrestling Entertainment owner Vince McMahon dubbed a “hairy smackdown.” Essentially, the Trumpster and McMahon had WWE wrestlers duke it out in the ring on their behalf last night (April 1, 2007). Pro wrestler Bobby Lashley fought on Trump’s behalf while “The Samoan Bulldozer” Umaga fought for McMahon in front of a live pay-per-view audience and more than 80,000 wrestling fans.

Apparently, Trump felt his wrestling proxy needed his help because at one point during the match he jumped up and threw a few punches at McMahon. In the end Lashley triumphed over Umaga, and Trump’s famous comb-over was spared. (McMahon and Trump had made a bet prior to the match that the loser would have his head shaved in front of both the live and televised audience members.) Once officials declared Trump the “winner,” he happily took shears to McMahon’s head.

Of course, this is pro-wrestling and any devoted fan knows that no one messes with the owner of the franchise so it came as no surprise to the crowd when Trump endured some post-match torture from special guest referee “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. Audience members were treated to quite a spectacle when Austin presented Trump with a victory “Stunner” (a shoulder to the head) while he was toasting his win with an ice-cold drink.

So that’s the way the billionaires spent their April Fools Day. It may have been funnier if The Donald got the new chrome-dome do, but to me the entire event was a joke all the same.
