Well, you had to know this was going to happen sooner or later: The Duggar family is going Hollywood!
All 19 of them.
Parents Jim Bob and Michelle along with their 17 children are getting their own reality TV show called “17 Kids and Counting.” The “and counting” part refers to the fact that Michelle is currently pregnant with baby No. 18 and there’s no telling when the procreating will end.
I know what you’re thinking: Don’t the Duggar’s already have a TV show? Not quite. The Arkansas clan has taken part in a number of primetime TV specials, most notably for Discovery Health Channel, but now viewers will be able to get a front row seat each week into the lives of this unusually large family.
According to show producers, the new series will focus on team Duggar and all that goes into raising two baseball teams worth of children with no debt. The family has become a pop culture phenomenon since first appearing on TV five years ago. Since then the clan has made regular appearances on talk shows and has amassed a cult-like online following. Heck, Michelle even used NBC’s “Today” show as the venue to announce to her 17 existing children (not to mention millions of viewers) that she was pregnant yet again. (By the way, the new series will reportedly premiere with the family’s trip to New York for their “Today” show appearance and Michelle’s big announcement.)
For those of you who are not familiar with this extra large family, Jim Bob and Michelle are high school sweethearts who have survived 20 years of marriage and are still going strong. They live debt-free in a house they built themselves and incredibly organized Michelle (I guess with that many kids you have to be either insanely organized or completely crazed) homeschools all of the children.
Whether you think the Duggar’s are nuts to bring that many children into the world (some have called the family “irresponsible”) or you get that they are simply following God’s plan for them, the Discovery Channel is hoping the clan’s daily activities make for must-see TV viewing.
