If you are a fan of CBS’ “The Early Show,” you may be saddened to hear that co-anchor Rene Syler will be leaving at the end of this month. Rene has said she had a great run with “The Early Show,” but she will be leaving to purse other media opportunities. Her last show will be December 22, 2006.
Rene was born at the Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, but she grew up in Sacramento, CA. She received a degree in Psychology from California State University in Sacramento in 1987. Rene started her career as a weekend reporter for KTVN-TV in Reno and also worked at KOLO-TV in Reno before moving to the weekend anchor position at WVTN-TV in Birmingham. From there, she took over the morning and noon anchor position at WFAA-TV in Dallas before moving to KTVT in Dallas to become the noon and 6:00 pm anchor. Rene joined “The Early Show” team of Julie Chen, Harry Smith, and Hannah Storm in October of 2002 as the fourth co-anchor. Rene received the Television Personality of the Year award in 1997 and also received the 2004 Gracie Allen Award for Individual Achievement in the National Best Anchor category for her series on breast cancer.
Since being on “The Early Show,” Rene has covered such topics as dieting, breast cancer, and hormone replacement therapy. She has had the opportunity to research her ancestral roots, interview the First Lady Laura Bush, and cook tacos with Bobby Flay. She had the opportunity to go to space camp with her son and even go to swim with whales.
Just what other media opportunities are open to Rene? One is her upcoming book titled “Good Enough Mother: The Perfectly Imperfect Book of Parenting.” Due in March 2007, the release of the book will be followed with a book tour that will take Rene across the United States. It is on this tour that she hopes to meet the people that have been watching her on her adventures on “The Early Show” for the last four years.
