You’ve heard about “The Emperors New Clothes” but what about the emperor’s new groove? Walk Disney’s “Emperors New Groove” is one of my favorite Disney releases in recent years.
In the film the Emperor Kuzco gets rid of his assistant Yzma. Unhappy about her unemployment Yzma decides to fight back by poisoning Kuzco. Instead of killing him she manages to turn him into a Llama. Kuzco has to get the help of a peasant in his town named Pachca in order to return to his human form and regain control of his kingdom. Sound confusing? It really isn’t. As complex as the plot sounds like it is, the movie is very easy to follow and very entertaining to watch.
I had a ball when I went to see this one in the theaters and it a DVD I rushed out to purchase shortly after it was released. The movie isn’t your typical Disney release, it has a prince, but that price isn’t in a quest for princess, instead he is on a quest to become a better person.
When we meet Kuzco is an incredibly arrogant and self-centered monarch. He has lived his entire life having everything handed to him, s he feels like that is the way life should be now, even though he’s a llama.
Through his time being a llama Kuzco realizes that world does not in fact revolve around him, and he gets a glimpse into the way other people in his kingdom live. By the end of the movie we are looking at a completely different Kuzco.
Although the movie does to some extent follow the same message as The Emperors New Clothes, this movie is a completely different take on the story and is highly entertaining to watch. I think The Emperors New Groove is appropriate for any school aged child, and is one adults will probably enjoy as well.
The Emperors New Groove is available where DVDs are sold as well as online at Amazon.com.
