The Emerson clan has a reason to celebrate – Walter and Evelyn’s daughter, Lia, is going to marry David Todros, the young Egyptian Emerson and Amelia brought home with them during an earlier adventure. While it took a little time for the couple to overcome the objections of the family, they were finally victorious, and “The Falcon at the Portal” begins with the wedding.
David and Lia head off on their honeymoon, leaving things decidedly more quiet around the Emerson household, until an old friend of Emerson’s shows up at the house with a forged antique scarab and the alarming news that David has been creating fake antiques and selling them to some very wealthy collectors. Not wanting to believe that he could do such a thing, Emerson and Amelia immediately set about finding the real culprit, aided by both Ramses and Nefret, now in their early twenties.
Ramses still hasn’t told Nefret how he feels about her, and consequently she continues to treat him like a brother. But it won’t be long until he has to open up and share all with her, especially as they work closely together to clear David’s good name. The bride and groom are supposed to join the party after Christmas, and they want the villain safely locked away before then. How could they let David come home to this scandal?
Meanwhile, Ramses has yet another unwanted female admirer, this one named Maude. Nefret has an unwanted suitor of her own – Amelia’s nephew, Percy, and he is not being very gentlemanly in his pursuit. They don’t have time to chase off unwanted flirts – they have to clear David, and do it fast.
This book is another stellar volume in the already fabulous Amelia Peabody series. You will want to jot this one down on your “To Be Read” list.
