The Fitness Blog Week in Review for Jan 6-Jan 12

Good morning, it’s a soggy Saturday here. It started raining yesterday and it’s been quite drenching. They are worried about freezing temperatures and there’s every chance we’ll have freezing rain and ice storms today so I have a feeling we’ll be fairly housebound for the weekend. That’s all right; we’ve plenty to do to amuse ourselves.

Our daughter got Dance, Dance Revolution for Christmas and it’s time she and I spent some time together dancing our little tushies off. But before we dive into that, here is our Fitness Blog week in review.

Saturday, January 6

Personal Fitness Challenge – How Does Your Family Measure Up? offers you and your family a chance to measure your activity level and whether you need to do more to increase that activity level. It’s not a sophisticated test and it’s offered more for the fun than for the accuracy of the measurements, but trust me, if you score low – you definitely want to ramp up your level of physical activity within the family.

There Went My Reason explored my frustration at the recent research that revealed diet soda may hurt your weight loss efforts rather than help.

Strength Training – Understanding More About It discusses further what you need to know to begin building your strength program. Finally in How To … Strength Train continues our exploration in weight and strength training. New Year, New Fitness Campaigns focuses on the efforts of the American Heart Association to help everyone reach their fitness goals and resolutions.

Wednesday, January 10

Strength Training Basics – Rules to Follow answers more basic questions and information on weight training, if you had more questions. Basic Training – A Guide to Follow discusses the basic training options I’ll be following over the next few months in preparation for the Spring Forward to Action Fitness Challenge later this spring. The Yoga Path explores Clarissa’s journey in yoga and how it has changed her life. Why Aren’t You Exercising? is the question, but your answer is the important part.

Thursday, January 11

Dear Heather … I Hate Working Out explores more questions and answers from our readers in the fitness blog, including the challenge of finding a fitness program when you really hate exercising. Smoke Break – Back in the Saddle recommits me to my challenge of becoming a non-smoker.

Friday, January 12

Workout DVDS Coming Up For Review previews a new feature here in the Fitness blog that will begin on Monday with reviews of Leslie Sansone’s Power Walk and more. The Classic Objections to Yoga debunks some of the myths that leads to other people’s objections to Yoga. In Pilates – What Do You Need to Know we discuss the challenge that Pilates offers for fitness and core strength. In Revealing Tension – Yoga’s Speciality learn the interesting things that yoga will reveal about you and your body.

Heather Long is 35 years old and currently lives in Wylie, Texas. She has been a freelance writer for six years. Her husband and she met while working together at America Online over ten years ago. They have a beautiful daughter who just turned five years old. She is learning to read and preparing for kindergarten in the fall.
