Fitness Blog’s: The Week in Review Sept 23-29
It’s been a terrifically busy week here in the Fitness blog and you’d think after 10 months of talking about fitness, I’d be tired of it, but I’m far from that date. We’re winding September down and we’re heading into October. Be sure to check out the September End of the Month Fitness Goal Check today and be back here tomorrow to start our run on October fitness. We’re going to talk a lot about Women’s Fitness in October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In the meanwhile, here’s a review of the work we did this week:
Sunday, September 24
We’ve talked about dropping exercise excuses before and we use the word excuse interchangeably with the word core. In fact, for most of us – when we avoid exercise, we come up with excuses that are plausible to our cause. Our excuses may be we’re too tired. We’re too busy. We’re overworked. We’re over committed. We have allergies. We have a cold. We don’t feel good. We’ll do it tomorrow.
Marriage Partners Can Equal Fitness Partners
I write for the marriage blog as well as the fitness blog and the following could actually be placed in either blog. I elected for here in fitness because we talk about parents motivating their kids and working on improving their kids’ fitness all the time. It’s equally important to work on maximizing your spouse’s fitness because in turn, they can help you maximize yours.

Brisk Days – How to Make Cooler Weather Work for You
We talked about the heat and the precautions that you take. Exercise may seem just like exercise and when you are working out indoors, but the outdoor workout will change subtly. Cooler weather lets you go further, perhaps push a little harder. A lot of people are breaking out their bikes and heading out to ride outdoors both in the early morning, the midday and the evening. Cooler weather gives you a lot more options for time to workout outside.
The Firm: Ultimate Fat Burning Workout
Have I mentioned that I love The Firm workouts? Okay, just a few times. I do love them. I love them so much that I recently purchased another DVD to add to my exercise rotation. The Firm’s Ultimate Fat Burning Workout is my latest addition to my workout. I just tried it out today, and I must admit; I love it.
Alison Davis, a Firm master instructor, leads you through something a bit out of the norm for The Firm workouts that I normally do. This workout does not involve a Firm step or Fanny Lifter. You don’t need any fancy workout equipment for this workout, just dumbbells. Everything is done on the floor from cardio to cardio with weights.
Autumn Running – It’s Cool Outside
Running is a cardiovascular activity that tones up the whole body and uses a lot of oxygen. Cool weather is a great time for running whether you are just getting started or you have a lot of experience. For beginning runners, this is a great opportunity to learn what you like about running whether you are running before sun up, on your lunch hour or after dinner.
Telephone Coaches – 1-800-Get Physical?
The number above is not real, but it’s based on a new concept in fitness that gives exercise enthusiasts and beginners a fresh take on personal coaching. We’ve talked about online coaches and personal trainers; we’ve talked about working with personal trainers at your gym. Now there’s a new ingredient in the mix that just might appeal to you, they call it the telephone coach.
What is a Telephone Coach?
A telephone coach involves hiring someone that can provide you with advice and motivation to keep it going on your fitness program. They are experts in psychology as well as physiology. Coaches may be dieticians, nurses, pharmacists or physiologists. It’s there job to talk to you, one-on-one, day after day for however long you are signed up.

The Power of Positive Fitness Thinking
If you exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet, but focus only on the negative aspects (such as negative self-talk) your brain is going to have problems too. There are exceptions to every ‘average’ endorsement. Right wrong or indifferent, the point of exercising, eating healthy and living a fit lifestyle are good for people no matter where they fall on the exception chain.
Holistic medicine invokes the use of positive and powerful thinking alongside physical treatment. Current research supports that exercise and nutrition keep our brains fit. The power of positive thinking is that you can improve your mood, strengthen your brain and maintain your health and fitness by exercising regularly and stimulating your brain.

Five Ways to Improve Your Fitness for Weight Loss Program
Weight loss is probably the number of one goal of all women. I say all women because I have heard women who weigh 110 pounds say they could stand to lose an extra few pounds. Before you discount them with a scoff and a snort, remember – the 110-pound woman may seem terrifically skinny, but her self-image is where that request for losing a few extra pounds is coming from. So with that in mind, here are five ways you can improve your fitness to assist your weight loss program.
Creativity Breeds Success in Fitness & Life
Whether you are learning how to use a new piece of equipment or perform new exercises or playing a new game, learning new activities has multiple benefits. As your skill increases in new activities, your inspiration and creativity increases as well. Considering new ways to intensify or experiment with your exercise and further increase your skill level begins. You will also become more creative in trying to combine efficiency and effectiveness in your workout.
Group Fitness Classes Are Great Options
Too often we think about the group fitness class at the gym with a groan. After all, who wants to be in a room full of spandex wearing women or men or both. Far too often we become self-conscious and we think only toned bodies are going to be on the people in that room, but it’s not entirely true. You may be denying yourself a great fitness option because of how you view yourself. It’s important to remember that plenty of people lose weight, trim up and look toned and firm after working out regularly and those toned bodies wouldn’t look that way if they weren’t in that group class busting a hump on a regular basis.

Kid Fitness: Myths about Overweight Children
Genuine concern exists for parents about the weight of their children. We hear a news story every single day about childhood obesity. We hear about what we need to be afraid of and in some cases, what we need to do as parents to protect our children. Today, I want to talk about some of the myths associated with overweight children.
Women’s Fitness: Your Duty to Yourself
Good morning Ladies, how are you today? Well, I hope. Me? Oh, I’m a bit tired. I’ve been working too much again and not taking enough time for myself. I seem to spend my life in an expectant stage of going from one project to another so fast that I forget to stop and take a breath in between them. This isn’t a healthy way to exist and I, of all people, am aware of it.
Ladies Our Duty is to Ourselves
As wives, mothers, daughters and sisters we tend to overlook ourselves in favor of our husbands, our children, our parents and our siblings. We tend to get so caught up in looking after others that we forget to look after ourselves. It’s important to remember that our first duty is to ourselves. Our first duty has to be to ourselves because if we fall apart – who is going to be there for our families then?
Friday, September 29
Friday is a day that we typically host our Friday Fitness Funnies, but I was out on the go all day and didn’t get here in time to post any so we’ll call it a down day and leave it at that.
Check out last Week’s Week in Review for those great stories.
