The Fitness Week in Review for Week Ending June 6

What a week! Can you believe that it’s the first week of June and that we’re at the halfway point in the year? Intellectually I know time has passed, but it feels like yesterday that my daughter entered 1st grade and all of a sudden she was officially passing the 1st grade and is now a 2nd grader. It’s more than enough to make a mom weep, but more on that at another time. Right now, let’s take a look at our fitness week in review.

Focus on the Olympics

In our continuing series that focuses on the Olympic athletes we introduced you to Guillermo Alvarez, the first of our gymnastics hopefuls; Alexander Artemev, a potential gymnast whose family emigrated Minsk when he was a child; David Durante who traveled to Athens in 2004 to root on his teammates even when he didn’t make the final cut; and brothers Morgan and Paul Hamm who are both competing for a place on the U.S. Gymnastics Team.

In Other Fitness News

At the beginning of the week, we took a look at Tips for Fit Living because every month gives us a chance to make a fresh start on our fitness programs. In Dance Fitness – Wanna Dance? we talked about the fitness benefits of dancing solo and with a partner. For our joggers and runners, we examined some Breathing Tips for Runners.

We challenged readers with the question Do You Prevent Your Own Success? and When Did Fitness Become Work? For our pregnant readers we checked out a study that found Stretching Helps Avoid Preeclampsia.

For parents, the arrival of summer is a good time to look at Kid Fitness – How Does a Garden Grow? Gardening is a great way to build bonds with your kiddo and encourage their health and fitness at the same time. Finally, our last article of the week was an examination of the rigors of professional dance and auditions in SYTYCD – Las Vegas Don’t Give Up.
