The Fitness Week in Review October 21-27

Welcome to our last Fitness Week in Review for October. It’s been a busy week and month here at the Fitness blog. Don’t forget that we turn back our clocks an hour at 2 a.m. Sunday morning, October 29. So we all get an extra hour tomorrow and that’s always something to cheer about! So without further ado, here is our Fitness Week in Review:

Saturday, October 21

When Is My Child Old Enough to Go Skiing? sought to answer a question that many parents have especially now that winter is approaching and many areas are starting to see snow. The World of Snow Skiing discussed what type of snow sport and skiing is right for you. There are so many different outdoor sports out there that are available for you to enjoy – so how do you decide?

Sunday, October 22

In Weight Training Leads to Longer Term Results we discussed the fact that there are different answers to different fitness needs and weight training is a great way to help build muscle and sustain weight loss.

Monday, October 23

In Kid Fitness: A Guide for Physical Activity we discussed how much is enough when it comes to engaging our kids in physical activity. With childhood obesity the rising concern of many parents, it’s important to understand how to engage your kids in activity and what the definitions of activity and inactivity are.

Tuesday, October 24

In Do You Know What Your Yellow Jacket Is?, we discussed that the yellow jacket is the subcutaneous fatty layer that surrounds your body just under your skin. Plastic surgeons refer to the yellow jacket when they are discussing your options for liposuction. Before you get upset, everyone has a yellow jacket. This subcutaneous fat layer is a repository for stored energy in your body. Essentially, it’s a battery for your internal organs and your muscles. In What’s Your Body Type?, I asked if you know what your body type is and what it means to your workout. Because in the month of November, we’re going to be making fitness workout recommendations based on your body type.

Wednesday, October 25

In Fitness Tips: Common Fitness Questions & Answers we discussed that there are a lot of questions we run into when we’re reading fitness materials and exercise suggestions. If you’re working with a personal trainer, you may have someone right there who can answer your questions. If you’re taking a fitness class or physical education course, the teacher may be able to answer those questions, but for the rest of us – here are a few answers to some common fitness questions. In Fitness 101: Step Aerobics, we talked about the basics of step aerobics and how they get your heart racing and the sweat dripping. In Fitness Tips: Something to Talk About we answered a few more fitness questions that you may have been looking for answers too.

Thursday, October 26

Dear Fitness Readers was my way of reaching out to my readers and suggesting methods to relieve stress and to relax. It’s good to know our options including meditation, exercise and more.

Friday, October 27

In the Friday Fitness Funnies: Strengthen Your Funny Bone we looked at the humorous side of fitness to find something to laugh about and flex our funny bones. In Men’s Fitness: How Does He Feel About His Body?, we talked about the fact that there are a lot of differences between men and women starting with our biology and stretching to our forms of communication and our perspectives. Men can also have trouble with their body image, despite the fact that we don’t think about it as much as we do in women. In Fitness Essentials: Your Mindset, it’s important to recognize that with all the fitness equipment, doodads, gadgets, videos and more that are available out there to us to use, the greatest of our fitness essentials is our mindset. Our mindset helps to determine our success, our perseverance and our ability to adapt ourselves to our fitness programs.

Thanks for a great week here! And don’t forget to set your clocks back tonight! What was your favorite story this week?
