The Flying Dutchman Makes a Visit to Disney’s Castaway Cay

I know, I know. You’re probably sick and tired of hearing about Pirates of the Caribbean, right? Record-breaking box office, new additions to the theme park attraction and even Pirates themed Happy Meals at McDonald’s. Yada, yada, yada.

However, when I first saw the press photos from Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, of a morbid looking ship moored at the shoreline, I couldn’t resist stepping back into the subject of Pirates.

Vacationers who take a trip on Disney’s Cruise Line to Disney’s Castaway Cay might be surprised to find Davy Jones’ ship, The Flying Dutchman, waiting for them as they arrive. The ship, fresh from its appearance in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and the upcoming final film, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, is an amazing piece of art and though I’ve yet to see it in person, myself, I can only imagine what this authentic prop must look like up close and personal.

Guests who venture into Castaway Cay might also bump into Captain Jack Sparrow himself (calm down, ladies – we’re not talking about Johnny Depp here), who might even be willing to pose for photographs and sign autographs.

This current promotion, of course, coincides with the recent release of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and the refurb of both Walt Disney World and Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean attractions.

You can currently see the Flying Dutchman when you book a cruise through Disney’s Cruise Line and, of course, Jack Sparrow will be making appearances at both Disney’s Disneyland and Walt Disney World theme parks through late summer.
