The Freedoms Of A Home – Based Professional

Right about now, freedom and liberty are at the forefront of many people’s minds. They are the values upon which America was founded, and they are things that many of us do not feel that we have enough of in our day to day lives. When I became a home – based professional, I realized just how much freedom I have as the owner of my own businesses.

In many professions such as law, taking years off of work to raise a family does not always bode well for one’s career path. Unless, of course, your career path is self directed. When I was in law school, I learned a lot about the types of careers that lawyers and law school graduates have. I realized that I really did not like most of the options, except for private practice. Being a sole practitioner gives me the freedom to be a lawyer while also being myself. I have been able to combine the practice of law (on a very small scale) with starting a family and being a stay – at – home parent. When my sons are older, I can grow my practice however I wish. I get to choose which types of cases to handle, and perhaps even more importantly, who I take on as clients.

As a freelance writer, I also have a great deal of freedom. There are many, many writing assignments available online. I could work more if I had more time available, but since I only have a limited amount of time, I fill that time with assignments that are interesting to me. The result is that I look forward to sitting down to write.

For me, becoming a home – based professional has given me the freedom to live my life in the way that I want to. My priority is being a stay – at – home parent, and I have created businesses that work with that. Within those businesses, I am free to choose work that challenges and interests me. How could a home – based business set you free?
