This is the third article in a series about really saving the most you can when it comes to disposable diapers. I’ve had a lot of practice in this area, and I am always looking for ways to be frugal when it comes to meeting my baby’s needs. Disposable diapers are definitely expensive and can add up to a big chunk of a budget over time.
Previously, I talked about how you can save money when you choose your diaper brands, and about the right ways to buy diapers in bulk. Now, here are my very favorite tips to share. I don’t think there are many people out there that know about these ones!
Here you go…
Look in unexpected places
Look around for diaper deals off the beaten path. I’ve found out that diapers can be like cars. New models and versions are coming out all of the time. You can use that to your advantage.
One of my favorite places to get diapers is a local discount store. They sell overstocks of last year’s “model” of diapers for nearly half the cost. My little one doesn’t care if his model of diaper is from last year’s design line up, so why would I spend more? I haven’t seen any major improvements or differences from you year to the next. Usually, the only thing that has changed is the character or design on the diaper.
Signing up for freebies is another way to get diapers. Oh sure, you may only get two or three a month, but it is a nice way to try out new brands and get coupons.
Check with your friends about diapers. Many people find they have leftover ones because they overbought and their baby grew quickly, or they were successful at potty training. Around the time I was expecting my third child, one friend of mine had almost an entire large case of size one diapers her infant outgrew. She was happy to pass them on to me, and I was happy to use them.
Talk to the managers at your local stores. There is one local drug store in the area that actually calls me when they have “discontinueds.” When manufactures change a line of diapers (remember those old Pampers “baby dry” diapers?) or decides to discontinue them, the stores often mark the remaining stock with deep discounts. I have gotten Jumbo packs of name brand diapers at $3 each this way.
