The Frugal Baby: Disposable Diapers And Buying in Bulk

In this second article in the series about saving the most money you can on disposable diapers, I’ll share some one of the secrets that I have learned about frugal diapers. I’m putting my third child through diapers now, and believe me there is a lot I have learned since the time my first child was going through them. In the very beginning, there were times when I thought that it would be easier to just wrap his little bottom with dollar bills.

In the first part of the series, I shared how being flexible can help save money. I also shared the nitty-gritty on generics diapers. Are they really frugal? You can read that earlier article by clicking here.

Now on to more tips.

How to buy in bulk and stock up

Buying the diapers in bulk can save you money, too. Just check out the unit pricing, and you will see what I mean. It is always important to check that unit cost because, believe it or not, sometimes larger packages don’t save you a dime.

When stocking up, it is important to be aware that you can buy too many diapers and wind up with waste. Before you start trying to calculate the average rate of your child’s growth and the number of diapers he or she will go though, let me help you out a bit. For sizes 1 and 2, it is probably better to buy smaller packages, as babies tend to grow out of these sizes very quickly. While you will be changing a small infant more often than a larger toddler, more diapers are packed into the same volume of box on smaller sizes, so it all evens out.

Size 3 is a great one to stock up on, as little ones tend to be in that size for quite a while. You might be able to do the same with size 4 as well, depending on the size of your toddler and when he or she is ready to potty train.
