The Future is the Present Before You Know It

I went to the park with my toddler and my baby today, and had a great time. The weather was beautiful and we met some friends there. Usually, my little man loves to be outside, and sit in his stroller and watch the other kids run around. Today, I got a little glimpse into future park play dates.

Recently, my baby has gotten to be quite squirmy. He wants to be on the move even though he can’t even crawl yet! He is rolling over though, and I’ve decided really needs his space. He kept fussing in the stroller for me to pick him up, but as soon as I did, he would lunge like he wanted to be down on the ground. Since we were throwing rocks into the water at a nearby stream, it wasn’t exactly conducive to putting down a baby on the ground.

My friend had her 13 month old there. That little girl was on the move. Turn your back and she was splashing in the water, or climbing in mud up a hill. I realized that stage of babyhood is not too far away. Just 6 months in fact! I better get ready to have two little boys running around at the park instead of just one!

The infant stage can be so hard in so many ways. Especially in my third child’s case. However, each stage has its challenges and its beauty. When they start to roll over, you have to make sure their small square around them is safe. When they start to crawl, your eyes are scanning an entire room. When they start to pull up, you have to check for things they could bump their heads on, and when they start to walk, your whole life changes!

But, if you blink, it goes by in an instant. That is one thing I have realized as I look at my almost 6 year old daughter. She was just that little 6 month old yesterday, and now she is my little friend and mama’s helper. Try to treasure the small stuff like when they are happy sitting in a stroller at the park, because it doesn’t last forever.
