I promised to share with you some of the gifts or blessings from each day. Since we’ve moved house that special gift is often an aspect of creation.
Recently as we went for a walk near our home we saw a rainbow, that unique symbol of hope and promise God gave to Noah back in Genesis 9:8-17. No, it wasn’t that I had never seen a rainbow before but usually it’s only one end of a rainbow, or part of a rainbow, that is visible, not the complete arch with both ends clearly visible.
On this day we saw the complete rainbow with both ends visible as a brilliant rainbow arched over the waters of St Georges Basin.
Only once before in my life had I ever seen both ends of a rainbow. My husband and I stood transfixed. How could anyone who sees such a marvel not believe in the great Creator God? Even while we stood still enjoying the sight, (no doubt annoying our dog, impatient to continue the walk) the end of the rainbow on our left began to fade. As it did, the other end of the rainbow to our right became brighter in color.
When the left side of the rainbow faded into the grey of the sky, we walked on following one of the walking tracks that wend around the water’s edge. As we walked we thanked God for the beauty of His creation. We walked quite a way and then looked back. Once again both ends of the rainbow were visible.
Seeing it, reminded me of Over the Rainbow, the song Judy Garland made famous and one everyone who sings seems to have a go at since. In our music collection we have versions by Judy Garland, Marina Prior, Eva Cassidy, Billy Thorpe and I’m sure several others tucked away in there.
Since we moved, we feel like we are in that land beyond the rainbow because the dream we dared to dream of living on the South Coast certainly has come true. Okay, maybe we don’t have bluebirds flying but we do have myriad other birds like crimson rosellas and rainbow lorikeets, just to mention two.
Even the gale force wind which has just blown all my husband seedlings in the greenhouse over, for the second time in two days, cannot take away from the gift of another day in this beautiful place.
Look around you, think about your life, what is there that you can recognize as a gift or blessing from God to you?
