The Good and the Bad of Summer

This is that time of year when I start thinking about the summer months and how my work schedule will be impacted. Because I have teenagers, I tend to have it easier during this time.

For instance, I get to sleep in later. I don’t have to get up by a certain time to get my children to school. I truly enjoy the extra sleep I get during the summer.

I don’t have to cut back on my work because my teens are busy with activities and friends. However, I may be called upon to drive them to where they need to be.

This is actually the most relaxing time of the year for me. And I count down the days until it all begins.

Yet at the same time, there are some challenges that still must be dealt with. For instance, determining when friends are allowed to come over.

Last year I set a specific time. No one could come over before 1 p.m. I figured that gave me all morning to get the bulk of my work done. I could stand a little noise for an hour or so in the afternoon.

But I also had to force myself to take time off. I get so much more done during the summer but I can easily get too wrapped up in my work. Then I miss out on enjoying my family.

Last year I tried to make it a rule that one day a week we would do something together. That was pretty hard to stick to because of my children’s busy lives. But since this year my oldest will be leaving for the military, I think I am going to be a stickler about this one.

Working from home in the summer months brings good and bad. It all depends on the season you are in. You have to enjoy the good and find ways to work through the bad (challenges).

What good things does the summer bring for you in working from home? What are the challenges?
