What would you consider to be the healthiest meal ever? A piece of lean chicken, whole grain rice with some green beans on the side? Or how about a salad, with a light vinaigrette drizzled on top?
Apparently food researchers have been able to come up with the healthiest meal a person could have. This was after spending years analyzing more than 4,000 health claims by supermarkets and manufacturers.
Out of those 4,000 claims, just 222 of them were considered to actually be healthy. Think about that. How many times are we enticed with the belief that what we are eating is the best thing for us when the majority of the time that isn’t true?
Researchers then took those 222 health claims and came up with the healthiest meal ever. It consists of fresh, smoked salmon terrine. This fish contains docosahexaenoic (DHA) and Omega 3, both having brain and heart benefits.
It also includes a mixed leaf salad, with extra virgin olive oil on top. This is good for your cholesterol. Then a chicken casserole that contains mixed vegetables and lentils.
The lentils help prevent fatigue and can boost mental performance. The protein in the casserole helps with muscle mass growth.
Actually, this doesn’t sound entirely too bad. And guess what? You even get dessert. It’s a live yogurt-based blancmange, topped with a sugar-free caramel flavored sauce and walnuts. All of which is good for blood glucose levels, teeth and digestion.
When it comes to our meals, it can be difficult to swap out the unhealthy selections with healthy ones. If you are finding this to be a struggle, take it one meal at a time.
Focus one week on making changes to your breakfast, the next week lunch, the following dinner and then the last week on snacks. While you may never get to the point where you can say you have eaten the healthiest meal ever, you can at least make vast improvements.
