It won’t be long and many of us will be making our New Year’s Resolutions. Actually, I stopped doing those years ago. There is something about resolving to make changes that I can’t hang with. I am more of a planner and a goal setter, so instead I like to think of the New Year as an opportunity to set new goals.
So what does this have to do with scrapbooking? I was thinking today about how we set goals for things like our career, character traits, our weight and relationships. Rarely does one consider their hobbies as something to set a goal for.
However I believe that investing time in hobbies, in things that we enjoy, is very beneficial. It is those things that we usually put to the side; insist that we don’t have time for. But all work and no play makes Stephanie (insert your name) a very dull girl (or boy).
It may not be quite time to start thinking about New Year’s Resolutions or goal setting but you might want to at least take this time to reconsider how you spend your time. Many times when people say they don’t have “time” for activities like scrapbooking, you often find them spending hours on the internet or in front of the television.
While that can be enjoyable, after a while it becomes pretty mindless. Scrapbooking allows for you to express yourself, capture memories and explore your creativity. It is productive.
Ask any scrapbooker why they enjoy doing what they do and most will give answers such as, “I like preserving family memories.” “I love expressing my creativity” or “It’s just fun.”
I think some of the most satisfied people in life are those that find the time to do the things they enjoy. Hobbies are not something they get to if they can manage to squeeze it in. Hobbies are integrated into their lives and are just as important as every other area of life.
Perhaps this was a little too “deep” for a subject such as scrapbooking; however, if you are an avid scrapbooker then you can probably feel me.
