Are you one of those people that things name tags and badges are dorky? Something to wear in low-paying or low-prestige jobs? In fact, if you are in a sales field, or even when you are attending networking opportunities and situations where you can meet and mingle–name tags and badges are very important. They make it possible for people to learn your name and remember you and increases the likelihood that you will make a lasting impression and connection.
Even if you are running your own direct sales or distributor business and think since you are the “boss” you don’t really need a name tag, it’s still a good idea to wear one when you do presentations, parties, conferences, etc. Think of it this way–you may say your name once when you introduce yourself. And, even if you have it written on some of your materials (which you should, of course), people may walk away without ever having “caught” your name. With a name badge, they will be reading and absorbing your name, while being introduced or listening to your pitch. This increases the chances that they will both remember your name and feel connected.
Wearing a name tag or badge is also incredibly important when you are at networking events and activities. Of course, it may not really be appropriate if you are at a cocktail party at the neighbor’s house (everything is a networking opportunity!) but there’s a reason chamber of commerce events, conferences and workshops all provide name tags for participants. You may have thought it was so the presenter would know you name, but, in fact, it’s so the participants can all get to know each other.
So, if you are running a business where a name tag or badge could be helpful, you can get them made at many print shops or order them on line. You can get one as nice and fancy or plain or however you’d like. Just make sure your name is easy-to-read and that you remember to wear one. It’s one cheap and easy way to help your business grow.
