The Importance of Reading About Finances

It is important to understand what is happening to your money and why. It is important to continue to learn about money management, investing and budgeting. One way to do this is to read about finances on a regular basis. One easy way to do this is to read at least one book about finance a year. Another thing you can do is to subscribe to a magazine that explains the trends that affect your money, and investing strategies.

I make it a point to read at least one new book about finances every year. This has really affected the way that I look at money. It helps me to see others viewpoints (even if I disagree). It also helps me to stay on top of the trends that are affecting our economy and the way that I will manage my money in the future.

Of course I often look for books that can help me learn more about areas that I do not know much about. Investing and planning for retirement are two key areas that I would love to learn more about. It is also good to review areas that I know more about, because it keeps me motivated to continue to learn about money.

The first book I ever read about money was “Rich on Any Income.” This book taught me a lot about basic budgeting, and the importance of tracking what I am spending. I read “The Millionaire Next Door” just as my husband and I graduated from college. It helped me form opinions on the importance of financial independence. It also taught me that just because you look like you have a lot of money (meaning you spend a lot of money) does not mean that you have a lot of money. This helped us to be wise at the beginning of our marriage. Recently “The Total Money Makeover” has given us the jump we needed to redirect our finances more productively.

It is important to search for and use tools to help us learn to manage our money more effectively. One way to do this is to stay abreast of the trends and systems that people use to build wealth. What are your favorite financial books?
