The visiting teaching messages the last few months have focused on the blessings that you can receive by attending Relief Society. The messages have talked about the temple, priesthood blessings and service. The truly great thing about Relief Society is that it has the ability to help every sister in some way. Since every member’s needs are different, this is an important and powerful tool.
The Relief Society serves the families in the ward. Often times this comes as a result of an illness or another negative situation. In many ways the Relief Society is able to help lighten the load, but more importantly it helps to show the family that Heavenly Father loves them, especially at this difficult time.
The Relief Society offers a chance for spiritual growth. This can come through church attendance, through visiting teaching messages or simply by reading the material available in each lesson. The presidencies often grow spiritually as well, since they are responding to promptings and helping those in need. The Relief Society President is able to know of many little miracles that happen within the ward.
The Relief Society also offers a social network for sisters in the ward. This is an important aspect of the organization. It is refreshing to be able to spend an hour each week with people who support your beliefs and can understand where you are coming from. It is important to have friends both inside and outside of the church.
The Relief Society also provides education opportunities through Enrichment nights. It can also offer opportunities for the sisters to provide service to those who are not members of the church. These opportunities help each sister to learn and grow on a regular basis.
I am grateful for the time that I have spent in Relief Society. I have been blessed in each of the ways that I have listed above. It is wonderful that the Lord has provided such a wonderful organization for us. What are your favorite things about Relief Society?
