The Incredibles – Part Deux?

Oh, say it’s true, please please! Because of all the animated features out there that could be a blast with a sequel — Brad Bird’s The Incredibles is one I would love to see. You may remember the 2004 Disney Pixar film that featured the Parr family: Bob, Helen, Violet, Dash and Baby Jack Jack. But the Parr family has a secret – Bob and Helen are former super heroes forced to give up their Super Identities and live like everyone else after lawsuits and public sentiment turn against them.

According to Brad Bird, he is still working on coming up with a story that would be good enough to justify a sequel.

I have to come up with a story that is as good as or better than the original. If I could come up with something like a Toy Story 2 with the same characters from Incredibles, then I would do it in a second.

You may remember Toy Story 2 took Woody and Buzz on further adventures when Woody is stolen by a collector and reunited with the ‘gang’ from the Woody television show introducing children to the great characters of Jessie (my daughter still has the doll and the bed sheets), Bullseye (yes, the lovable, ragamuffin horse) and the not-quite-evil, but not-quite-nice Prospector who would do anything to keep from going back into storage again.

Bird says,

I have ideas. I have a few bits and pieces, but I don’t have it all together

. Currently, Bird is promoting the new Disney/Pixar film Ratatouille which opens this Friday (and my daughter and I already have a date to see it, so check back here for more information this weekend).

Currently, Pixar is partnered with Disney to make a Toy Story 3. Contrary to popular belief, Pixar is not against doing sequels – but if the sequel isn’t a strong film or a good story – they won’t do it. For Pixar, it’s the story that’s worth telling – not just making another film to sell at $14.99 or more. There are a lot of franchises that can take a page from their book. Remember, Walt Disney used to say

‘We don’t’ make films to make money. We make money to make films.

This is Pixar’s philosophy and as a huge fan of these franchises – I am very happy that it is. So you work on that story Mr. Bird and we’ll be the first in line to get tickets to the further adventures of The Incredibles.

Would you be interested in an Incredibles sequel?
