Everyone I know is so pressed for time. A lot of us are also worried about keeping our brains active. The Intellectual Devotional has 365 exercises in learning and reflection. In just a few minutes each day you can read the daily passage and expand your knowledge and your mind. The book is subtitled “Revive Your Mind, Complete Your Education, and Roam Confidently with the Cultured Class”.
Mondays are history days. The first entry concerned the alphabet. I didn’t know that the Egyptians invented the first alphabet which was a simplified version of hieroglyphics. I didn’t know that the Phoenicians spread this alphabet to tribes along the Mediterranean coast. Or that the Greek and Roman alphabets were based on the ancient Phoenician script. Our own alphabet is based on the Roman. Several of our letters are direct descendents of ancient Egyptian characters. Our letter “B” is from the Egyptian character for the word house. Other history entries concern things like wars, the black plague, and the French Revolution.
