The Kitchen Saga – Floors? Who Needs Em?

reno

Ah, the past week has been a bit of a headache. Ok, it was a lot of a headache, and I was very grouchy at times. However, things are looking up in the land of renovations.

You see, we went in to choose our flooring. It was a lovely tile, and not too expensive. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the tiles in stock and needed to order them in. That was all right, since we’d had to reorganize the renovation already, because our floors would need to be reinforced to make a stable base for the tiles.

Then last week, the night before our floor was to be demolished, the flooring place called. They’d sold our tiles to someone else. Apparently the tiles came in, but no one had clicked the little button that said that they were for us, so they sold them to some happy customers. Oh dear.

I could have blown a gasket, but I try not to do that. They said that they could order them again, but that was going to take a month. Another month of having no floor and cooking in the living room did not seem like a good idea, so we looked at other tiles. We found some. Then our contractor got sick.

So this weekend, he finally started on the tiling – hurrah! Currently we can’t use our front door, which is less than fun, but the tiles that are in look amazing. I have my fingers crossed that we will have floors by the end of the week, which would be wonderful, since the cabinets should be going in on the 20th. Then we will be oh so close to being done – just the countertops and the plumbing to go!

Deep breaths! Have you survived a renovation recently? What challenges did you face along the way?
