The LDS Families Week In Review: February 25th – March 3rd

We have certainly had a prolific week here at the LDS Family Blog! The blogs have ranged in subject, covering nearly every aspect of the gospel. Let’s take a stroll through just a few of them.

Gospel Doctrine (Sunday School)

In Pride and Charity, we discussed how we need to be certain that we weren’t doing good works to attract worldly attention. In Divine Communication, we discussed how we can use sincere and heartfelt prayer to draw closer to our Heavenly Father. In Receiving What We Give, we were reminded that as we sow, so shall we reap, whether it be in judgment, forgiveness, or kind works. In Wandering Through the World, we learned that we cannot aimlessly wander through the narrow gate; we must diligently and earnestly seek after the kingdom of Heaven. And in The Sermon on the Mount Audience, we examined those who listened to the Savior’s lessons, and which group we would seek to belong to.

Relief Society & Elder’s Quorum:

The Relief Society lesson this week will vary based on your ward, but I decided to share the direction that our lesson would take. However, only two blogs were posted on the subject, mostly due to the fact that inspiration struck and a lesson planned for over a month required a shift in direction (and a lot more study!). In The Role of Angels, we discussed what angels sent by Heavenly Father accomplish on the earth. And in Sisters Who Long to be Loved, we took a second look at inactive sisters who might secretly be longing to return to the gospel fold.

By the way, did you notice that we have a new catagory listing? You can now click on “RS/EQ Lesson” in the catagory box at the right and find this week’s lesson all in one place!

General Topics:

The rest of our blogs fell into two similar groups, along with a third ‘miscellaneous’ category.

For the month of March, we are going to explore the biographies of the fourteen women who have been called to serve as Relief Society President. In Relief Society Presidents: An Introduction, we looked at an overview of the month. In Relief Society Presidents: Emma Hale Smith, we examined in brief the life of one of the most well known (not to mention the very first) Relief Society Presidents. And in Relief Society Presidents: Eliza Roxy Snow, we learned more about the well known writer, poetess, and composer who continues to bring so much light to our world with her compositions.

We also have several Conference talk summaries available this week. In
General Conference: “The Great Plan of Happiness” by Elder Nash, we examined the importance of living the gospel, and how Satan tries to tempt us away. In General Conference: “The Plan of Salvation”, Elder L. Tom Perry walks us through what the Plan of Salvation is and the essential role of the Savior in it. And in General Conference From the Past: “Anonymous”, we reviewed the blessings of doing good works anonymously.

There were some wonderful selections in the rest of the items posted. In Dinner Discussions 2007 Week 8, we reviewed what had been taught at church the previous Sunday, and how we can bring the lessons home to our children. In Family Home Evening: Nephi and the Brass Plates, we reviewed possible methods of teaching our family the wonderful story of faith that Nephi lives as he obtains the scriptures from Laban. In Treating Our Bodies as Temples, we examined the importance of taking care of our bodies, which includes (but is not limited to) the Word of Wisdom. In Relief Society: Five Ideas for the Relief Society’s Birthday Enrichment Night, we were given five great ideas to celebrate the Relief Society birthday celebration, which should be taking place in the next week or two. In Primary Time: Dealing With Nursery Problems, some valuable solutions were taught about handling difficulties with your toddler. Ten Ways to Know You’ll Never Be Relief Society President gave us a humorous look at signs that we won’t be called to such an important position. In Young Men: Missionary Preparation, some great ideas were provided on how to prepare to serve a mission. In Visiting Teaching: Spiritual Promptings, we took a look at this month’s visiting teaching lesson – have you made your appointments yet? In Staying on the Gospel Path, we talked about the importance of making the choice to follow the gospel, and how it affects our lives. In Young Women: Spiritual Skills, we talked about letting our Young Women leave the next properly fortified. By the way, this is a great lesson to read if you have toddlers; you don’t want to try to arm your youth in their senior year. And in Being of One Purpose, we examined the importance of unity in marriage, and some methods to get us there.

Whew! I don’t know about Miriam, but I’m exhausted just looking at all of these! I think I’ve got writer’s cramp…. 😉 In the meantime, we hope that you came away from this week’s blogs edified and closer to the Savior.
