One of my favorite Disney movies of all time is “The Little Mermaid”. When I was in middle school I actually played Ursula in a performance of the tale, and have been absolutely hooked ever since. I purchased an Ursula limited editor doll, and owned a VHS copy of the movie that at one point I watched and sang along with almost every single day. I’m still prone to bust out with my own rendition of “ A Whole New World” ever now and then.
In “The Little Mermaid” a mermaid named Ariel falls in love with a man who lives on land. During the movie she struggles against her father who wants her to live in the sea and marry a nice merman, and her desire to experience something new with he love and the land above the sea. When Ursula the sea witch offers to give her legs in exchange for her voice, Ariel reluctantly agrees. With her new power evil Ursula threatens to take Aerials fish dynasty away from her father, and Ariel must choose between her family and the land above.
This is a fun movie, with an absolutely fantastic soundtrack you will be singing for days after you watch the film.
Disney recently released a Platinum 2-Disc DVD Edition of The Little Mermaid which quickly found a prominent place on my DVD shelf. The DVD set features a all-new digitally restored 5.1 enhanced surround sound version of the film. In addition to the movie there is a “kiss The Girl” music video, several games, never-before-seen deleted scenes, a making of documentary, and a sneak peak at Disney’s new movie “The Little Mermaid 3”.
The Little Mermaid is definitely one to own in your home video collection. The movies are typically released on VHS or DVD for only a limited time before they are put back in the Disney vault, so it may be one you want to pick up soon while it is still available.
