The Look of Love

left

What’s your look of love? Does it include a dreamy smile, glazed over eyes and raised eyebrows?

That’s what my face looks like whenever I see Dean Cain, Jason Bateman, Anderson Cooper (I know) and Ryan Reynolds… with their shirts off.

I prefer not to think about the looks they’d give me if it they were to catch me looking at them.

Why ruin a good dream?

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner many shutterbugs are trying to capture a frame worthy look of love to gift to their sweetheart. Others skip the surprise element all together and strike a pose with their special someone. If you can’t find a skilled photographer to snap your picture, consider capturing it yourself.

Before you get clicking, remember that self portraits require a tripod. Grab that special someone and find a favorite spot to strike a pose. Next, attach your camera to a tripod, employ the self-timer feature and smile brightly. In addition to keeping your camera steady, having a tripod on hand will allow the two of you to relax and not worry about looking goofy as someone else aims the camera at you.

When composing your self portrait it’s fine if the background is slightly out of focus. The goal is to draw attention to you and your sweetie. By snapping a few test shots you will be able to tell if you need to adjust your framing. Determine if you look better standing or sitting, and don’t be afraid to zoom in a bit if you want to snap a close-up shot of the two of you cuddling.

If you’ve selected a special spot to pose, be sure to feature it in your self portraits. Your favorite place could be a popular hiking trail or the restaurant you visited on your first date. Married couples may want to pose at the place where they got engaged. Meanwhile, if you are looking to capture a casual moment with someone you just started dating look for a more secluded area, especially if this is the first time you are taking photos together.
