With so many versatile uses, no home should ever be without duct tape. After learning a bit more about duct tape in the first article in this series, you should now be ready to start using it for different things around your home. Some are standard, some are funny, but amazingly all are real and could work!
Now obviously a few were thrown in just to get a laugh, and have been collected from various sources, however keep in mind that there are many realistic uses for this product, and most are listed here.
If you have any other uses for duct tape that I forgot to mention, or you’ve used duct tape for something not listed, please tell me about it in the comment field. I’ve always had a fascination with duct tape since my brother introduced me to its use with his car when we were teens!
And here are a bunch of ways you can utilize duct tape:
- Use as floppy disk labels, video tape labels or labels for anything.
- Patch that rusted out trap at the bottom of the sink.
- Put strips in the bottom for a non-slip bathtub.
- Tape computer or TV cables out of the way.
- Hang pictures and posters.
- Patch blow up items – balls, pools, toys, etc.
- Weatherstrip windows and doors.
- Use it on the bottom of furniture to keep hardwood floors from scratching.
- Use it around handles of garden tools, kitchen tools, anything that seems to get slippery. The duct tape allows a better grip.
- Use it to reinforce items around the house such as laundry baskets, trash cans, clothes hampers, etc.
- Instead of buying an expensive push up bra or backless strap bra, use duct tape – apparently this is a deep dark underground modeling secret.
- Duct tape can be used to secure a falling hem on a shirt, skirt or pant leg.
- It can be used for eliminating armpit stains or ring around the collar if placed inside the shirt. With the new transparent duct tape, nobody will notice.
- Duct tape around windows and sliding glass doors to prevent water from leaking in.
- Fasten decorative lights to railings of house with Duct Tape. Use for other outdoor Christmas decorations too.
- Backpack reinforcement – help that old backpack make it through one more year of Cover your books in paper, then cover the paper with duct tape.
- (With Halloween only two months away I had to include the following two)
For Halloween become the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz: Simply wrap the entire body in duct tape, leaving face uncovered. Put a funnel on top of your head and carry around a duct tape covered oil can and ax. - Metallic Mummy: cover yourself head to toe in duct tape and speak in inaudible groans. Feeling old fashioned? Go with white duct tape.
- Fix broken tail light on vehicle.
- Twist a long piece into rope.
- Tape wires down on floor or out of the way.
- Tape wires back together after splicing (much wider than electricians’ tape).
- Patch ripped clothing.
- Repair broken hoses.
- Repair broken fan belt.
- Use it for crafts. Not to secure, but to decorate!
- Make a bookmark: Fold in half and use as bookmark.
- Use for a fun way to wrap a gift for a guy (in fact, buy duct tape and then wrap it up in duct tape – by the way you may wish to have some scissors nearby so they can actually OPEN the gift!)
