The hot days of summer have finally arrived here in Texas, but it’s still not broiling us as temperatures remain in the 90s – instead, it’s the humidity that’s suffocating outside. A comedian once described Texas weather by saying if you go look at old Indian writings from a few hundred years ago they’d say: “Darn it’s humid in August” and I can’t imagine he was far wrong. August is just around the corner and we’re going to be looking at getting ready to go back to school and the effect that has on your marriage and your relationships because summer time seems to relieve some pressures and enhance others – at the same time, going back to school (especially for couples with children) is a time for routines to begin exerting themselves. But we’ll explore that more fully next month.

The 50 Reasons Why asks you to take a moment to pause and reflect if you are seriously considering divorce. Think about all the reasons you fell in love with your spouse in the first place. Try to come up with 50 reasons for loving them, marrying them and want to stay married to them. 50 is a lot and it means you have to genuinely think about what it is you want to do.

Forgiveness is an Action Word and to forgive or be forgiven requires action on the part of everyone involved. It’s not a passive act that grants a free pass for bad behavior, instead it’s an active and synergistic decision that requires energy from all parties.
