The Marriage Blog Week in Review – May 21 – May 25

What a week here in the Marriage Blog and what a week for many couples around the country who saw the school year ending and got ready to launch their summer vacations. Summer vacations for couples can provide a lot of opportunities and challenges. We’re going to take a look at those in the common weeks as well as our focus on weddings just in time for June. Also, don’t forget, this summer also plays host to the lucky day that many brides and grooms are looking forward to on July 7, 2007 – or 777 as they call it. Without further ado, let’s take a look at our week in review:

Monday, May 21

Wives Who Work From Home – Yes, Honey, I Do Have a Job begins a series that looks on the struggles married couples face when the wife works from home. We continue looking at Marriage Laws governing marriage licenses in our 50 state tour with a stop in Marriage Laws – North & South Carolina.

Tuesday, May 22

Ask a Marriage Blogger: Isn’t Advocating for Gay Marriage Out of Line? answered the challenges from readers who fall on both sides of the gay marriage issue. In Marriage Laws – Georgia and Florida we take a look at the laws governing marriage licenses in those states. In Wives Who Work From Home – Soccer Mom Syndrome we continue our series on marriage looking at wives who work from home and the challenges of doing it all.

Wednesday, May 23

In Marriage in the News: Eloping Again, 60 Years Later we honor a wonderful couple who celebrated their 60th anniversary after eloping in 1947. In Wives Who Work from Home – Bringing Home the Bacon we answer the question of how to communicate the fact that working from home is a job and their spouse needs to respect that. In Marriage Laws: Kentucky & Tennessee we head west from the East Coast to look at the laws governing marriage in Kentucky and Tennessee.

Our series on Wives Who Work From Home – Schedules, Spouses & Stop Signs we talk about ways to keep our spouses from steam-rolling our schedule and how to create an atmosphere that doesn’t generate friction or resentment. Marriage Laws: Ohio & Indiana take a look at the marriage laws in those states.

Friday, May 25

Wives Who Work From Home – Working for the Weekend explores how to balance your schedule with your spouse’s and whether to work over the weekend or not. Personally, we celebrated We Did It – She Graduated Kindergarten and the fact that our little girl finished her first full year of school. We continued our study of Marriage Laws – Alabama & Mississippi with stops in Alabama and Mississippi.

Heather Long is 35 years old and currently lives in Wylie, Texas. She has been a freelance writer for six years. Her husband and she met while working together at America Online over ten years ago. They have a beautiful daughter who just turned five years old. She is learning to read and preparing for kindergarten in the fall.
