The Marriage Blog Week in Review – November 4 –10

It’s been a busy and exciting week here in the Marriage blog. There was a national election on Tuesday that saw 7 states accept constitutional amendments to ban gay marriage, while one state – Arizona said no to that ban. If you don’t read my fitness blog, you may not have known that I also quit smoking this week and today marks Day 4 heading into Day 5 and I’ll be writing about how great my spouse has been in supporting this effort next week. In the meanwhile, if you missed any of our key stories this week, here is a rundown for you on our articles this week.

Saturday, November 4

Sherry offered some Dating Advice along with the solid grain of salt to weigh all advice against your own feelings and thoughts. In Divorce: Don’t Plan For It we talked about the fact that when we are getting married, we don’t plan for the divorce and we don’t plan on dividing up the wedding gifts and we’re not planning to divorce at the same time we’re taking our vows.

Sunday, November 5

In Religion and Marriage, we discuss that the coupling of one believer and one non-believer can pose some serious issues. Many religions, or factions of certain religions, teach that people of faith should not marry someone who does not believe in God.

Monday, November 6

In Dating: Listen to That Little Voice, we discuss listening to that little voice inside us that tells us the things we need to hear whether we want to hear them or not. In All Marriages Are Cross-Cultural we address the fact that when two people come together, they are bringing their different family and cultural backgrounds with them.

Tuesday, November 7

In What the Heck is Speed Dating? Sherry introduced readers to the idea of speed dating that takes place in a controlled atmosphere where men and women have a chance to speak to each other for five minutes or less before going on to the next person in the room. In Marriage Debates: Today is Election Day discussed the issues confronting the country as citizens went to the polls. In Make Your Voice Heard on Marriage Debates and More: Vote! we urged everyone to get out the vote and make their votes count. In Are You Opposites …Politically? Sherry confronted the problems a couple may face if they do not share the same political views and beliefs. In Spirituality in Marriage we discuss the difference between religion and spirituality and the spirituality of being married.

Wednesday, November 8

They may be popular in the movies and in soap operas, but If You Like ‘Bad Boys’ (or Girls) Read This we talked about the stereotypes and more. In 10 Things You Find In A Happy Marriage we talked about the different behaviors you see in a happy marriage. In Marriage Debates: Ballots Banning Same Sex Marriage Sherry offered her viewpoints on the results of the November 7th vote and in Marriage Debates: Election Round-Up, I shared my own perspective.

Thursday, November 9

In Marriage Means No More Dating Others (Or Does it?) Sherry asked the question of why do people bother to get married if they plan to continue dating others?

Friday, November 10

In Ovulation Tracking and Special Ring Tones for Sex Sherry discussed the new type of mobile phone that offers a special ring to let couples know that the optimum time for them to conceive has arrived. In 10 Mistakes that Make a Bad Marriage we discussed the different types of behavior that we see in a troubled marriage. In Revisiting Celebrity Marriages – Lessons We Can Learn we talked about the rash of celebrity divorces making the headlines and in Do You Love Quotes? we enjoyed some good quotes and humorous quotes that reflect marriage humor and more.
