Tonight my wife began taking a trip down memory lane. She started by looking at the large number of photos and videos we’ve taken over the last two years. Everything from her progressing through the pregnancy to our son a couple of days ago at the park. This went on for a good long while (as we’ve got lots of material to go through). We really enjoyed seeing how much both we and our son has changed over the past couple of years. We’ve lived in three different places, had a number of different jobs, earned a degree, and we’re currently planning our next move as our time comes to a close. In the middle of all of the photos was the midwife.
If you haven’t been following this blog then you may not know that my wife and I used a midwife for the birth of our son and we couldn’t have been happier with the process or the result. As we looked at those pictures of early visits, labor, and eventually the first morning we spent with our newborn son, we remembered how wonderful the entire process was for us. It was very comforting.
As we are planning on having more children in the future it reminded us of our firm commitment to use a midwife again. I’ve always been a little uneasy in hospitals. The process of having a child, and the many steps along the way, were some of the most laid back and comfortable things I’ve ever experienced. Everything went well. You can go back and read about the experiences we had way back then earlier in the fatherhood blog, but it was mostly wonderful. There was my wife and I for the most part, occasionally the midwife, and eventually our beautiful son. A wonderful reflection — and hopefully a similar future.
