I honestly think I may have found the best school supply ever. At least for those of us who enjoy living a more frugal lifestyle, always looking for the cheap school supplies!
Every year at back to school time we fight strangers for supplies, that quite honestly are expensive and most are used up before first quarter is even over. Then whatever is leftover is usually lost or ruined by the end of second quarter. Leaving you to start all over again mid school year.
My least favorite school supply to purchase has always been folders. And how many different folder varieties there are. There are two pocket folders, there are two pocket folders with prongs, there are two pocket folders that have three holes to add to a binder, and then there are all the colors!
Within only weeks of using a folder in school, the folder is typically falling apart. The spine is often the first thing to tear, next it might be a pocket corner, and so on. It’s a never ending cycle with these little supplies.
However last year, I discovered plastic folders. They are made of plastic and come in the same styles as the old paper folders. Except they have one key feature that makes them great. It is next to impossible to tear them.
When our kids came home from school last year, I gathered up all the plastic folders. This year when folder selecting time was here, we had tons of them. I used a Mr. Clean Magic eraser to clean them off from pen marks and pencil drawings. I used a sticky label where the name goes, and each child had the folders they needed for school.
If you don’t have any this year, don’t worry. Wal-mart had them this week, in my neck of the woods, for .07/folder. That is an AWESOME deal. We did purchase 10 this year because we also use them around our house for various things, including our household notebook.
So I recommend re-thinking those paper folders, and run, don’t walk…to your nearest discount chain and buy some plastic folders. They seriously are the greatest school supply to come in quite awhile. (especially since our kids can’t use Trapper Keepers anymore!)
Do you have a school supply that you just love? Or a great find to share? Please do!
