The Monster Bash – A Halloween Wedding

Good morning and Happy Halloween. It occurred to me, rather startlingly this morning, that we made it all the way through October without discussing a possible Halloween wedding theme. So, aiming for the better late than never solution, let’s kick off our Halloween morning with a little Halloween wedding planning and suggestions that may come into use for you next Halloween.

Nothing Ordinary About a Halloween Wedding

The great thing about a Halloween wedding is that you can toss out all the traditional ideas at your whim. You can theme your wedding in any way that involves wearing a costume, but here are a few suggestions to help you dress up your Halloween wedding theme.

Invitations

Your invitations can be chosen with a fall look in mind. You may incorporate pumpkins, fall leaves, black cats or even the moon. Write up the invitation and use wording that suggests your theme. For example, if it’s a costume party and wedding, invite your guests to dress for the occasion. If the colors are red and black, then make sure that’s indicated on the invitation as well.

Flowers

The flowers can be a mix of fall colors. You can incorporate day lily’s, tiger lily’s, orange roses, blood-red roses and even use fall leaves in the bouquets and table settings. You can mix and match and even incorporate black into the flower arrangements as part of a black and red or black and white theme.

Location

The location for your wedding can be everything from a grand ballroom to a gothic church. Check with the desired location about their requirements for booking a wedding on those dates. Your reception can be held in a grand, historic mansion or again in a hotel. The decorations are the key here. You can set the tables with black table clothes and orange place settings. You can scatter black and orange pumpkins and jack-o’-lanterns around the room.

You might consider wrought iron candelabras and pillar candles with mirrors around the room to increase the effect. Christmas lights in red, orange or white can also be used to highlight the areas. The wedding cake can be done up in a fall theme with pumpkins as part of the decorating theme. You might also use the Nightmare Before Christmas figures if you want – or find some costumed figures as part of the wedding cake topper.

Entertainment

During the reception, ask the DJ to play some Halloween music with everything from Thriller to Ghostbusters to the old fashioned Monster Mash. You might also invite a fortuneteller to entertain guests with five-minute fortunes and palm readings being offered. Your wedding favors will be a real hit with the kids by simply filling some Halloween treat bags with candy and setting them in place throughout the reception hall.

A Halloween wedding theme can be great fun and make for a really memorable ceremony. Have you ever attended a Halloween wedding?
