Today we are supposed to hit a record high of 85 degrees. That is more than 20 degrees above normal for this day and virtually unheard of for October. (Believe me I’m not complaining.) Regardless of the temperature, I’m still getting into the holiday spirit. Today I’m picking up the Neiman Marcus Christmas Book from my friend’s house. I can’t afford a single item in the 81st edition of the luxury gift catalog, but that never stops me from dreaming.
If you have ever peeked inside the famous holiday catalog you know that you don’t have to be a millionaire to be thrilled (and stunned) by the unique, whimsical fantasy gift selections the company comes up with each year. From fashion to jewels, housewares to… private jets. If you have someone on your gift list that is hard to shop for you’ll likely find some idea for him or her in the Neiman Marcus Christmas Book.
My friend already ruined some of the surprises for me. I’ve heard about the his-and-hers chocolate portrait (Bosco syrup on canvas) by Brazilian artist Vik Muniz. It’s sells for $110,000, but when you’re loaded, what’s a hundred grand for chocolate on canvas? And for the family with a large yard that yearns to be the talk of the neighborhood, Neiman Marcus is offering a 100-foot-long dragon topiary for $35,000. Not high-tech enough? Well, how about a swami fortune telling robot for $75,000? Not fancy enough? What about a Kirov Orchestra classical music concert presented in your hometown for you and 499 of your friends? It retails for about $1.6 million, but think about how happy it will make your friends—all 499 of them. For the person who has everything (well, almost everything) the catalog features a Gem Triton 1000 submarine for a cool $1.44 million. A few lucky ladies might find some incredible treasures hidden under their Christmas tree if the men in their lives shop at Neiman Marcus. Up for grabs in this year’s catalog is a $1 million Diamond in the Rough necklace with a centerpiece of a 305.18-carat uncut diamond that sparkles with gold, green and amber tones.
Some of the more affordable options include a membership to the Juicy Couture charm-of-the-month club. The gift recipient gets a 14K gold-plated charm bracelet, with a seasonal charm sent to her each month. It’s a real steal at just $495.
