The Movie “Five” Part 2

Hello again I am continuing talking about the movie “Five” that is a Lifetime movie directed by 5 fabulous women. If you read my last entry I was talking about how a little girl named Pearl in 1969 was affected by the loss of her mother to breast cancer.

The next short film was “Mia” this followed a woman who was given the stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis. It showed a different perspective, one of a woman who thought her only future was a certain death. She lived and traveled like there was no tomorrow because like many woman facing stage 4 breast cancer there is not guarantee of a tomorrow. She drank expensive champagne, traveled to all the places she wanted to go. Her husband could not live with her cancer diagnosis and left her. Now you may think that never happens you would be wrong. It is sad but true sometimes when a spouse gets the terminal diagnosis the other spouse forgets the part of the wedding vows that include “in sickness and in health”.

When Mia was dealing with her own mortality she hosted her own “funeral”. She did something so many people would like to do by attending her own funeral and heard the kind words that were said over the empty coffin. Then she did something wonderful that I can only imagine would be so incredibly freeing; she called out her “best friend” for 20 plus years who disappeared when she got the cancer diagnosis.

With me I did not have my best friends back away, they were there for me. I did however have friends or people who I thought were our friends from church disappear. This was extremely shocking to us because first isn’t that when friends should be there the most? Also to have our church friends back away when we could have used the support the most was really upsetting to me.

The story followed Mia through facing her mortality to finding new love.

About Tammy Woolard

My name is Tammy and I am 40 year old mother of 3 wonderful children who came to us through domestic adoption. Although we did not have any fertility issues we chose adoption because there are so many kids that did not ask to be born but truly want a family to love. We did research on adoption choices and decided on domestic adoption through CPS. You would be surprised the differences between each agency. The adoption process is nothing like you see in the movies. I am also a 5 year breast cancer survivor. When I was diagnosed my kids were 3, 5 and 7 I did so much research I may have driven my Dr. a little crazy but that is ok it is my body not his.
