The Movie “Five” Part 4

Did you see the movie “Five” on Lifetime? If not you can watch it online now by clicking here. The movie followed 5 stories of how breast cancer affected different women. So far I have talked about Mia, Lili and the first one Charlene but the fourth story was about Cheyenne. She was a 29 year old exotic dancer whose lump was noticed first by her husband.

The story shows how many women feel no matter how old or young they are. She was facing bilateral mastectomies and she was trying to adjust to the idea of sexuality post-surgery. This is one of those issues that I too faced. Granted my body is nowhere in the shape that hers was but the wondering about how my husband would react to the scars post-surgery. Being the type of person that I am I did many internet searches on post-surgery photographs so that neither my husband nor myself would be shocked with the appearance.

The movie very tastefully showed how the husband addressed this with his wife. It depicted how a woman would feel and look after the mastectomies. The movie also showed how even the toughest men; whether they be the husband, boyfriend, son or friend; can be overwhelmed by the fact that their loved one could potentially die. It showed that real men cry, and will support their loved one not run away like the husband in the character Mia’s did.

Now when I was watching the end of the movie it left me wondering if Cheyenne beat the disease or if she lost her battle. Now I know it is just a movie and Cheyenne is just a character but the reality is I was a lot like her. I was worried if my husband would want to be married still, if he would still think I was beautiful even when I did not feel it. I lucked out and got a great husband who would even sit and watch a movie that he knows is most likely going to make me cry.

About Tammy Woolard

My name is Tammy and I am 40 year old mother of 3 wonderful children who came to us through domestic adoption. Although we did not have any fertility issues we chose adoption because there are so many kids that did not ask to be born but truly want a family to love. We did research on adoption choices and decided on domestic adoption through CPS. You would be surprised the differences between each agency. The adoption process is nothing like you see in the movies. I am also a 5 year breast cancer survivor. When I was diagnosed my kids were 3, 5 and 7 I did so much research I may have driven my Dr. a little crazy but that is ok it is my body not his.
