The Movie of Jack Weyland’s “Charly”

I want to write a quick review on the movie “Jack Weyland’s Charly.” If you are familiar with the book “Charly” by Jack Weyland, then you will be familiar with the story. It is a love story of two opposites: Sam, an uptight member, and Charly, a free-spirited nonmember. Through the story Charly joins the church, and the relationship between the two begins to develop. Sam struggles as he comes to care for Charly, because of the things that have happened in her past. As he works through those emotions, he realizes the true meaning of forgiveness, and then realizes he might have lost the woman that he loves.

I really feel that this adaptation is well done. Heather Beers does an excellent job playing Charly. I think that she really captures Charly’s fun spirit as well as her serious emotions throughout this movie. Jeremy Elliott plays Sam. The two do an excellent job playing off of each other. You can feel their emotions as you watch this touching story about love, and the need to know that love and marriage can last forever.

If you enjoyed the book, you will definitely enjoy the movie. I am not one that normally cares for movie adaptations of books, because I feel there is so much that is usually cut out, but this is one of the exceptions to that rule. However, I think this movie focuses on the most important parts of the book, and the message is carried through very well.

This is a definite girl’s night movie. Make sure that you have plenty of tissues on hand. I put this movie in when I feel like I need a good cry, because by the end I am bawling. If you are looking for an uplifting, clean love story, then this is the movie for you.
