The Newborn Daze

The days following the birth of a baby are exhausting. The days also go by so fast that you hardly blink and the newborn phase is over. It is such a precious time that I want to encourage you to enjoy it and make it last as long as possible. I have had four babies and the time I miss the most is the newborn phase. The newborn phase is a gift and sadly so fleeting. How can you make it last?

After my third baby, my husband gave me the best gift of all. He allowed me to do nothing but hold my baby and rest for a full week. He took the week off and made sure my other two kids were taken care of, the house was taken care of and even the laundry was done. Compared to any other time this was the best recovery week I had. I was so rested and felt great by the end of that week. If you can have your husband take a week off or have friend or relative help you out I highly recommend it. You will get to spend every second with your baby and believe me that is the best gift you will ever receive.

Plan ahead and freeze meals or buy restaurant gift cards in advance to prepare for dinners following the birth of your baby. If you can afford it have a cleaning service come in before you give birth so you can come back to a clean home. A clean home and dinner plans already done will make you feel better and allow you to enjoy time with your baby.

Do not be afraid of “spoiling” a new born. You can hold your baby as much as you like. Take plenty of pictures to capture these precious moments. Take care of yourself and rest as often as possible so you can enjoy this time.
