It’s been a few weeks since news came of a Reese Witherspoon/Jake Gyllenhaal pairing and almost instantly the two words most frequently linked with the new couple were: “unlikely match.” Now the tide seems to be changing. All of a sudden, tabloids are describing the hook up as the “perfect pairing” and “the real thing.”
Confused? Don’t be. After all, the crack team of newsstand tabloid staffers isn’t exactly known for their award-winning fact finding skills. If you have been following this latest high profile Hollywood’s coupling then you know that Gyllenhaal and Witherspoon were regarded as “just acquaintances.” Both actors are costarring in the upcoming movie, though they don’t share much screen time together. According to a tabloid report, during a reshoot “Jake went and reintroduced himself to Reese.” And from there they suddenly became “the real deal.”
Okay, not quite. It seems after they were given a few weeks to “investigate” the romance, entertainment publications surmised that indeed the pair had much more in common than first appeared. For example, according to one source, Gyllenhaal and Witherspoon both enjoy “good books, killer workouts – and Indian takeout.” But, what may be their strongest bond is their intense desire to protect their privacy.
Thirty-one-year-old Witherspoon, who split with husband Ryan Phillippe five months ago has two young children daughter Ava, 7, and son Deacon, 3. She has gone on record saying that she prefers staying home with her kids than making the rounds on the red carpet. Meanwhile, Gyllenhaal, whose much-publicized romance with actress Kirsten Dunst ended a year ago is also said to be a homebody. In fact, according to PEOPLE magazine, a longtime pal of Gyllenhaal’s once said the reason the actor broke up with his former girlfriend was that “Kirsten wanted to go out and have fun and he wanted to stay in, watch a movie and cook dinner. … He’s very into his work, health and family. Reese is perfect for him.”
There you have it. Straight from a “pal’s” mouth: a “perfect” match. Hmmm. We’ll see if the couple’s mutual homebody lifestyles turn out to be the glue that keeps this new relationship together. I have a feeling if the coupling doesn’t last we’ll be seeing the words: “unlikely match” in the headlines again.
How long do you think the Witherspoon/Gyllenhaal pairing will last?
