The Oscar Aftermath

Well, I only got to watch about 9 hours of Oscar coverage yesterday as my hubby and I decided to take our son to a train show. Then, I missed some of E!’s coverage because I couldn’t hear it over the steamy train engine running in my kitchen.

But, I still loved it. Oscar Day is THE yearly holiday for me at my house and this year, it didn’t disappoint (even though I, unlike most people, thought it ran a bit short!). So what were the highlights and lowlights of the night?

Well, on the red carpet, certain sites are reporting that Jennifer Garner was “attacked” by Gary Busey. I saw it live and it was less of an attack and more of an inappropriate hug and kiss. He didn’t throw her to the ground and I thought she was a bit catty with her remarks afterwards. Everyone knows Busey is a bit out there – how he even got close to Ryan Seacrest (who assured Jennifer “we have people” – where they were, I don’t know) is unknown to me. Oh, just for the record, Gary Busey, crazy though he may be, has an Academy Award nomination. The total nominations between Ryan Seacrest and Jennifer Garner – zero.

Also big carpet news was George Clooney bringing ladylove Sarah Larson. The two haven’t even been dating a year yet, but Gorgeous George seems a bit serious about her – he rarely brings dates to the red carpet. Looks like George might be in love. More couple news was made when Sean Penn showed up at post-Oscar parties with model Petra Nemcova on his arm. But, what was up with Javier Bardem? We have seen photos of him and Penelope Cruz frolicking on the beach then he showed up with his mom? That was sweet and all and I thought maybe Penelope couldn’t make it, but no, she was a presenter at the show. Hum, maybe they are still trying to keep it on the down low.

It definitely seemed to be an international night – many of the award winners gave speeches in broken English or resorted to their first language to say thanks.

I thought Jon Stewart was great. I am not a big fan of his, but he definitely amused me last night. I thought I was going to fall off my chair when he mentioned little known presidential candidate from the 40’s “Gaydolf Titler.” In case you missed it, he was talking about how Barack Obama was doing great in the presidential race despite the fact that his middle name is Hussein and his last name rhymes with Osama.
