The Overexposure of Charlie Sheen

I have been quite disturbed about something lately. It is the constant media coverage surrounding Charlie Sheen. As if this world doesn’t have enough disturbing things going on that we need to concern ourselves with the likes of Charlie.

Apparently Mr. Sheen has also set the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to reach 1 million followers on Twitter. We seriously have 1 million people following this guy?

I guess what mostly disturbs me about the situation is the attention being drawn to his questionable lifestyle and his crazy remarks. Teens are well aware of the influence he has had on our country and it bothers me.

Why are we always putting the spotlight on those who choose to do wrong? How can our children understand the wrong in what they do when they constantly see Hollywood stars get away with all kinds of things?

The likes of Charlie Sheen, Lindsey Lohan and others who influence teens are a disturbing trend. Why don’t we ever see the spotlight shine on positive influences?

I have made it my goal to keep my children as far away from this crazy media frenzy as much as possible. I realize that I can’t completely shelter them but I do make it a point to talk to them about truly important things going on in the world.

For instance this morning on the way to school we had a discussion about Libya and what is going on there. I would rather my children know more about world events and what is going on locally than the nonsense of crazy Hollywood stars.

What do you think about the overexposure Charlie Sheen has received? Or the exposure that other stars have received when they have done wrong things? Do you talk about these situations with your teens?
