Today must be a day for me to talk about interesting phenomena. One trend that I have been noticing lately is the growing number of people who are purchasing second notebook computers. Much like the second (and third and fourth) televisions in a home, second notebooks seem to be coming almost a standard desire, or seen as a very convenient necessity.
For our terms, when I talk about a second notebook, I don’t mean having more than one notebook in a household that is assigned or used by different household members. Dad may have a laptop and so may Junior, but I still consider those first notebooks, since they are used as a single notebook to each person. Have I confused you yet?
A second notebook is generally something that serves a different purpose for a user than does a primary notebook. The second notebook might only be used for web surfing and checking e-mail or for basic productivity. Often, this second notebook is smaller and contains less features than does the primary notebook. This smaller size can be lighter to carry and sometime, but not always, less expensive. If you are looking for a second notebook for on the go, here are some of the most popular.
HP 2133 Mini-Note PC
This little gem doesn’t have a lot of computing power (the CPU is underpowered when compared to most notebooks), but the great design delivers everything it needs in basic functionality, small size and comfort.
Asus Eee PC 4G
The low cost of this little notebook (starting at only $399) makes it a great candidate as a second portable computer. Asus recently added the Windows XP operating system to improve the basic functionality and offer impressive web surfing ability. It is a second notebook that can be considered a no-brainer for a highly portable second notebook.
