Yesterday in Relief Society the teacher was discussing the things necessary to feel the spirit. She brought up an excellent point that our ability to feel the spirit is affected by physical laws as well. So often we focus only on being worthy of feeling the spirit, and doing the spiritual things to help yourself be open to feeling the promptings of the spirit that we forget that there is more to it.
When you are tired, cranky or hungry, you are less able to focus on the spiritual promptings that may come. It is important that you take are of your physical body and recognize that it is a gift from the Lord. As you do all you can to take good physical care of your body you will better prepare yourself to receive promptings from the spirit. When you are in good health, you will better be able to act on those promptings as well.
When it comes to feeding your body, the Word of Wisdom offers great advice about what to eat and what to avoid. Similarly you should watch the amount of sweets and fatty foods that you consume. These are addictive as well. It is important to eat on a regular basis. Fasting can help you feel in tune with the spirit, but you should eat unless you are fasting.
Exercise is another important aspect of taking care of your body. It helps you to stay in good health. Another important aspect is getting enough rest. This helps your mind to stay clear and gives you the energy you need to respond to promptings as well.
It is important that you care for body as well as your spirit. This will help you to better be able to accomplish the things that you need to. You will also have a greater sense of happiness and self-worth.
