I love my coffee. What I don’t love is spending money on it. After all, water is free. Add some brewed beans, and you have to pay for it. Doesn’t seem to make much sense, does it?
Well, combine my need for coffee and my need for living at our means and you get one motivated woman. I’ve learned a few things about saving money on coffee, even the gourmet kind.
Organic coffee usually doesn’t cost any more than standard coffee. It is one of those weird but true things. So, if you only want organic, you don’t usually have to worry about paying extra.
If you want the gourmet coffee experience at home with your own coffee maker but don’t want to pay for ordinary beans, try this fun little coffee trick. Break up a cinnamon stick and place it in with your grounds before you brew for cinnamon coffee. You can also add a drop of vanilla extract for a vanilla coffee.
When you need to grab a cup of coffee out, consider going cheap. In taste tests, (New York Magazine) Dunkin Donuts coffee came out ahead of the more expensive Starbucks. Around here, there is a convenience store chain called Wawa that offers great coffee for a very low cost.
If you do wind up at a more expensive gourmet coffee place, try asking for black coffee and then adding your own combination of cream, sugar, cinnamon and whatever else they have available and free at the drink station. It may take a couple of tries to get it perfect, but you’ll save around 50 percent each time.
Take advantage of free coffee samples. If you search the Internet for freebie sites, you will come across free gourmet coffee samples that you can send away for, to brew your coffee at home. You can also find printable coupons that you can print out and take to coffee shops, donut shops and convenience stores. Redeem them for free coffee.
