The Pop Culture Week in Review – September 5, 2009

As we all get ready to head into a long Labor Day weekend, I am going to take time to review the pop culture events that happened over the last week.

Two celebrities were buried this weekend. Michael Jackson’s body finally got to its eternal resting place after almost 10 weeks. The singer was buried in a private ceremony at the Great Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, California. Like in life, Michael will be surrounded by stars in death. Also buried at the cemetery are Jimmy Stewart, George Burns, Errol Flynn, Spencer Tracy, Humphrey Bogart, and Dorothy Dandridge.

DJ AM was also buried this week after his August 28th death. By all accounts, it seems as if he took his own life with drugs, with many friends believing that he couldn’t overcome the survivor’s guilt of living through the horrendous plane crash last year.

In happier celebrity news, Taye Diggs and his wife Idina welcomed a son, Walker Diggs, on Wednesday. The rep for the couple said, “Mother, father, and son are all doing well.” It is the couple’s first child.

Are Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo reconciling? The couple has been spotted together three times in the last week after a split in June. Meanwhile Khloe Kardashian has a new man – Los Angeles Laker Lamar Odom. Sister Kim said the two are “very, very happy” together after a few weeks of dating. The two shouldn’t have a problem having extra cash for dates – Odom just signed a four year, $30 million dollar deal!

And finally, Chris Brown has admitted he wants to seek counseling for the Rihanna assault that occurred earlier this year. Although he said he didn’t remember hitting the singer, he said, “I want to understand my feelings” and thinks it would be helpful to talk to a counselor. He also said he has looked into a few domestic violence programs.
