There is no doubt that the popularity of the iPhone is through the roof, even before it has actually been released. Anyone who owns a mobile phone has heard of the iPhone and probably wants one.
Already news reports have been coming in projecting that there is much more demand of the iPod than there will be supply. This “panic” probably feeds the gotta-have-its a bit, after all, scarcity often makes things seem more attractive, but the desire for an iPhone is much more than your typical tickle-me-elmo type hype.
According to the magazine, Information Week, for an example of the iPhone’s popularity, 90 percent of all cell phone owners rate the iPhone higher than their own phones. What is amazing about this statistic, reported originally from a recent Strategy Analytic’s Wireless Device Labs study, this rating occurred based on the study participants viewing a video of the iPhone. The owners rated the device without ever actually touching an actual iPod. Would those in the study still rate the iPhone as high if they actually got a chance to use the device? Probably.
The reason I think that the demand will be mostly justified is because the iPhone is a pioneer. There is nothing else like it of its kind, at the moment. Add that to the fact that as with any Apple device, it promises an easy to use, quality interface.
Meanwhile, Apple is reporting that the iPod will be released early in the country of Russia, in the Fall to be exact, because of the high demand there. It also might have something to do with the fact that they want to have a market presence there for the holidays, or the fact that other companies such as Sony and Verizon are threatening competition.
What do you think of the iPhone? Will you get one when they become available?
