The Pregnant Woman’s Packing List

With summer in full swing, people are taking trips to visit family, relax on beaches, or go on new adventures. Depending on the destination, many people often choose to drive to their vacation spot. Riding in the car for an extended period of time, however, can put a damper on the fun, especially when you are pregnant. Let’s hope you have A/C in your car. Besides proper climate control, it’s a good idea to bring:

1. A comfy travel pillow. Whether it be a donut, boppy or overstuffed bed pillow, having something soft to lean your head against when you’re ready for a nap is essential. Pillows are also great for adding lower back support or propping up a book. If you can read without getting car sick, bring a….

2. Good book or magazine. Pass the time a little easier by distracting yourself with some good reading material. Remember to take frequent breaks to stare into the horizon. This will help prevent motion sickness. Have a reading light handy if you are traveling at night when it is dark. Dome lights can make it hard for the driver to see.

3. Plenty of ice cold water. Fill up a cooler with more than you think you’ll need. You can try freezing some of the water bottles so that they nice and cold when you’re ready to drink them. Besides quenching thirst, a cold water bottle feels very good against the forehead or neck when the heat becomes unbearable.

4. Comfortable shoes. Wear your most comfortable shoes for the car and jogging in and out of rest stops. Change into your normal shoes when you arrive at your destination. If you are not driving, you can feel free to kick off your shoes altogether and go barefoot. Just make sure to slip into a pair of shoes before going into the restroom.

5. Healthy snacks and a few treats. Pack plenty of food that you can eat without guilt. If you are hungry, it will be hard to ignore the fast food signs at every exit. There’s nothing wrong with a trip through the drive through here and there, but keep in mind that sometimes fast food and long car trips do not mix very well. You might end up feeling even worse. Keep light food in the car and you will love the convenience of having a snack without losing time or money by stopping.
